Naast het gebruik van tekstuele bronnen, zijn in de afgelopen eeuw de multimodale bronnen toegenomen. Volgens IBM zijn audiovisuele collecties de volgende golf van big data, waarbij televisie-archieven en interviewcollecties van oral history projecten interessante bronnen voor onderzoek kunnen vormen.

Echter, door de andere structuur ten opzichte van tekstuele bronnen, is het doorzoeken en analyseren van multimodale collecties niet triviaal. Hoe deze nieuwe bronnen te metadateren, of met technische toepassingen doorzoekbaar en analyseerbaar te maken is onderwerp van discussie in deze sessie.

In deze sessie stellen we voor de mogelijkheden te verkennen van opschaling van online communicatie en samenwerking tussen Nederlandse en Vlaamse historici met behulp van de nieuwe digitale community voor geschiedenisprofessionals Historici.nl.

The first THATCamp in The Netherlands will be held on 14-15 January 2014 in The Hague. It will be organized by the Royal Netherlands Historical Society and the Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands on occasion of the launch of the new version of the website Historici.nl and the publication of a special thematic issue of the BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review on digital history.
